I am also for safety and we just spent a bunch on fuel aprons, 20lb extinguishers, fuel mats, but now would be the time to allow to make a change before we are forced into it.
As mentioned, there is no race advantage for red heads ,just safety.

i think we should allow the upgrade now to those wanting to be safer but not make it mandatory. What do you guys say?

I don't see a reason not to allow it. If a team wants to spend the money and make their program safer for the driver/co dawg and crew, it should be allowed....esp when the subject matter is fueling and it 100% entails no performance advantage.
